Moped and Scooter Tracker and Security

Your scooter lives on the street outside the flat, and it is how you get to work. Plenty of commuter mopeds and scooters have no immobiliser or alarm fitted as standard, which is exactly the gap our UNO is designed to fill. We cover the layers a scooter needs: a Thatcham S5 tracker through KYMCO, an alarm, an immobiliser, a brake lever lock and security marking.

Tracking a moped or scooter

If you want a scooter tracker, ours is the Stealth S5. In November 2022 KYMCO announced that its UK dealers would offer the Stealth to customers from December 2022, across a range that includes scooters. It is a Thatcham S5 tracker with live location, journey history and 24/7/365 monitoring by our recovery specialists. The £359 price includes installation on the UK mainland, and our KYMCO and Datatool Stealth page has the partnership detail.

Subscriptions start at £12.49 a month, or £119 for one year and £309 for three. The Stealth connects to the vehicle’s electrics, so ring us to confirm it suits your scooter. Our battery powered Quantum 3 is described for motorcycles, ATVs, agricultural and marine use, so we leave it off the scooter list for now.

Layers for a commuter scooter

Start with a siren: the Evo Compact puts a movement sensor and alarm on a 12v scooter. If the scooter has no immobiliser, add the UNO, so it will not start without the transponder. Then put the Croc Lock on the brake lever whenever you park, and mark the scooter with DNA so it can be traced to you.

An alarm and a tracker do different jobs, and our motorcycle trackers comparison shows how the trackers differ. The full range is in the alarms and immobilisers store.

Insurance and Thatcham

Insurers decide what they accept on a scooter, as they do on a larger bike. UK insurers recognise Thatcham approved devices, and the Stealth S5 is a Thatcham S5 tracker. Ask which category yours wants, using the checklist on our Thatcham tracker and insurance page, or find help on the support page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best tracker for a moped or scooter?

Our tracker for scooters is the Stealth S5, which KYMCO offers its customers across its range through its UK dealers. Our product pages do not list scooters or mopeds for the Stealth or the Quantum 3, so ring us to check your model before you order.

Is the Quantum 3 suitable for a scooter?

Our Quantum 3 pages cover motorcycles, ATVs, agricultural vehicles and marine use, and they do not mention scooters or mopeds. For that reason we do not recommend it for a scooter on this page. Ring 01257 249928 and the team will advise on your vehicle.

Which Datatool alarm suits a scooter?

The Evo Compact, which is made for motorcycles and scooters with a 12v battery. It costs £114.99, has three sensitivity levels, automatic rearm and a two-year warranty.

Is there an immobiliser for a 125cc scooter?

The UNO is a single circuit transponder immobiliser for motorcycles, scooters and quads, aimed at the 125cc, commuter and scooter market. It costs £299.00 with free UK fitting and a two-year warranty.

Will the Croc Lock fit my scooter?

The Croc Lock brake lever lock is made for scooters, motorcycles and ATVs, and costs £32.95. It is not suitable for vehicles with handguards.

Can I mark a moped so it can be traced if stolen?

Yes. Datatool DNA is a security marking system that uses invisible microdots, and it covers motorcycles, scooters and ATVs. The price is £39.99.

Will a tracker lower my scooter insurance?

It might, but that is your insurer’s decision. Ask which Thatcham categories it accepts for a moped or scooter before you buy, and read our guide on whether you need a Thatcham tracker for motorbike insurance.
