Stealth S5 vs Biketrac: More Security, Fitted for the Same or Less

A Biketrac is advertised at £299 and our Stealth S5 at £359, so on the face of it the Biketrac is £60 cheaper. It is not. Biketrac’s price is before fitting, and a dealer then charges to install it. Our price includes fitting, at a location of your choice on the UK mainland.

Fitted, the S5 costs the same or less, and you get an extra layer of security for it: a named Thatcham S5 category, the highest grade a tracker can hold, with a rider tag and our team monitoring the bike around the clock. Biketrac is a Thatcham S7 tracker, one grade below. The Quantum 3, also fitted for you, comes in more than £100 below a fitted Biketrac standard.

Levels of protection

A Thatcham badge only helps if you know which category sits behind it. This is what each company states on its own website.

LevelWhat the maker statesProducts
Thatcham S5Category S5, 24/7/365 monitoring and a rider tag.Datatool Stealth S5
Thatcham S7Category S7, stolen vehicle location.Datatool Quantum 3, Biketrac LITE and Biketrac standard

The S5 sits one grade above S7. Both locate a stolen bike; the S5 adds rider recognition, so a ride without your tag raises the alarm. That is the extra layer you get with the Stealth S5, fitted for the same price as a Biketrac or less. Our Thatcham explainer sets out what each category means.

The total cost including fitting

Biketrac does not publish its own fitting price. To show the effect, we used three prices that independent dealers publish for fitting a Biketrac: £60 (Two Tyres, “fitted from”), £75 including VAT (FWR, “can be more on some motorcycles”) and £90.94 including VAT (Manhattan Motorcycles). Your own quote could be higher or lower.

After 3 years, fitting £90.94£668.00£558.99£638.94£469.94
  • Stealth S5: £359 + £119 = £478 after a year; £359 + £309 = £668 after three.
  • Quantum 3: £249.99 + £119 = £368.99; £249.99 + £309 = £558.99.
  • Biketrac standard: £299 + £99 = £398 plus fitting after a year; £299 + £249 = £548 plus fitting after three.
  • Biketrac LITE: £199 + £60 = £259 plus fitting after a year; £199 + £180 = £379 plus fitting after three.

Over time the yearly subscription is where Biketrac narrows the gap: £99 a year for the standard against £119 for ours. After three years, a Biketrac standard fitted at these dealer prices totals £608 to £638.94, against £668 for the S5. The Quantum 3 totals £558.99 over the same three years, below a fitted Biketrac standard at every dealer price shown.

What the S5 price buys is a named Thatcham S5 category, a rider tag, 24/7/365 monitoring by our team and fitting we arrange for you, with a monthly plan if you would rather not commit to a year.

Because fitting is quoted separately, get an all-in price from your fitter before you compare. Our totals have no fitting line to add.

RF: Biketrac has it, and we are adding it

Biketrac’s website lists RF alongside GPS and GSM, so a rider comparing the two will ask where the radio layer is on a Datatool. Our answer is Scorpion VHF+ (VHF is a radio frequency band, so this is RF tracking). It is launching in the UK under Ofcom licence 1419997/1 and works as a last-mile layer on top of our GPS trackers. The Stealth S5 stays Thatcham S5 with a VHF+ beacon able to sit beside it at launch, and the Quantum 3 comes as Quantum 3 with Scorpion VHF+: self fit, no wires and no drain on the bike’s battery.

Worked example: Biketrac standard if your fitter charges £125£424£523£673

Biketrac’s price is before fitting and Biketrac does not publish what fitting costs. Your dealer sets it, and one dealer says it can be more on some motorcycles. Ours is one price, nothing to add. The £125 row is a worked example, never a Biketrac price: £299 + £99 + £125 = £523 after a year and £299 + £249 + £125 = £673 after three. Quantum 3 with Scorpion VHF+ is £269.99 + £119 = £388.99 and £269.99 + £309 = £578.99, with three years of monitoring included in the bundle at £578.99. It costs less than a fitted Biketrac standard over three years at every fitting price shown, and the Quantum 3 bundle at £558.99, also with three years of monitoring included, costs less again. The earlier comparison with the standard Quantum 3 (£558.99 over three years) still holds for that version, which a Datatool Approved Installer fits for you.

Where we suit you

Come to us if you want a named Thatcham category, one price with the fitting done, and a choice of subscription lengths from monthly up to five years or lifetime on the S5. The Quantum 3 is the one to pick if you would rather leave the bike unwired. See all of them on the motorcycle trackers page, or read how to choose a motorbike tracker.

Frequently asked questions

Is installation included in the Biketrac price?

No. Biketrac’s website marks both unit prices with the words “Installation not included”. It does not publish a fitting price, and what you pay depends on the dealer. The Stealth S5 price of £359 includes installation at a location of your choice on the UK mainland.

Which costs less, Biketrac or Datatool?

On the day you buy, fitted, the Stealth S5 at £359 costs the same as a Biketrac standard or less, because Biketrac adds a dealer fitting charge. Over three years the cheaper Biketrac subscription brings a fitted standard to £608 to £638.94 at the dealer prices above, against £668 for the S5, and the S5 is a named Thatcham S5, the highest tracker category. The Quantum 3 totals £558.99 over three years with fitting included, below a fitted Biketrac standard.

How much does Biketrac fitting cost?

Biketrac does not state a figure on its own website. Independent dealers publish their own prices: Two Tyres says fitted from £60, FWR says £75 including VAT and that it can be more on some motorcycles, and Manhattan Motorcycles says £90.94 including VAT. Your quote may differ.

Is Biketrac Thatcham approved?

Yes. Biketrac is a Thatcham S7 tracker, the same category as our Quantum 3. The Stealth S5 is one grade higher, adding rider recognition through its rider tag.

Does Biketrac have 24/7 monitoring?

Biketrac’s website lists 24/7 real-time monitoring. The Stealth S5 comes with 24/7/365 theft monitoring from our vehicle recovery specialists, so on monitoring the two are close on paper.

Is the Stealth S5 or the Quantum 3 closer to Biketrac?

The Stealth S5, which is connected to the bike as Biketrac is, and which we install for you. The Quantum 3 runs on its own batteries with no wiring, so it is a different kind of tracker, and it is the lower-cost Datatool option with installation included.

Is there a minimum subscription?

Biketrac’s terms and conditions state a minimum 12 month subscription period, paid monthly or yearly. With us you can pay £12.49 a month or take a 1 year or longer plan, and our terms and conditions apply.

Does Biketrac use RF?

Yes. Biketrac’s website lists RF alongside GPS and GSM, and its trackers are Thatcham S7 and wired in, with the dealer’s fitting charged on top. Datatool’s radio layer is Scorpion VHF+, launching in the UK, which we are adding to the Quantum 3 and which can sit beside a Stealth S5.

Does Datatool have an RF tracker?

Quantum 3 with Scorpion VHF+ is the RF and VHF version, launching in the UK. It is £269.99 (£578.99 with three years of monitoring included), self fit, wire-free and takes nothing from the bike’s battery, and its Thatcham S7 category is that of the Quantum 3 tracker. Register your interest or read our page on RF and VHF motorcycle tracking.
