The covers are off. Tenders are back on davits, outboards are out of the workshop, and slipways across the country are getting busy. Marine theft has climbed sharply over the last three years, and outboards have been hit hardest of all. Small, valuable, and — for a thief who knows what they’re doing — off a transom in under a minute.
Insurance claims keep rising. Recoveries, without help, mostly don’t.
We’ve built something for that. Quantum Marine Tracker is now available to order direct from Datatool, and every order placed direct includes a free Datatool DNA Security Marking System*
Built on More Than Three Decades of Recovery Experience
Datatool has been a trusted name in stolen vehicle recovery for over thirty years. Thousands of motorcycles and vehicles tracked, monitored around the clock from our Secure Operating Centre, and recovered alongside police forces across the country.
Quantum Marine is what happens when we take that experience and put it to work on the water.
It uses the same tracking intelligence behind our Quantum3 platform — the same 24/7 monitoring you’d find on a motorcycle or car — but the hardware has been re-engineered for life afloat: salt, vibration, weeks on a trailer, and months in a marina. Thatcham approved. Tested for the conditions that matter.
It works on PWCs, on outboards from small RIBs through to day cruisers, and on tenders — which, frankly, get lifted off davits more often than most owners realise.
Safe Zones, On Your Terms
Set up safe zones in the app — your marina berth, home driveway, storage yard, the dealer who handles winter servicing — and the tracker stays quiet while the boat is where it should be.
The moment it leaves a zone without your say-so, you get an alert. Open the app and you can see exactly where the journey started, and where the boat last reported in. Or sign in to the desktop dashboard if you’d rather see the bigger picture on a proper screen. Co-owners can have their own logins too, so nobody’s left waiting on a single account.
No nuisance pings every time the boat shifts on its mooring. Just a useful alert the moment something isn’t right.
Two Layers of Protection in Every Direct Order
Police Crime Prevention Initiatives and Secured by Design recommend a layered approach to marine security — what they call STORM. Under the ‘Track’ pillar, they single out two things in particular: a tracking system, and a forensic property marking kit.
Order Quantum Marine direct from Datatool and you get both.
Every direct order includes a free Datatool DNA Security Marking System*. It’s a forensic marking kit you apply to your outboard, your electronics, and any high-value gear on board. Invisible to the naked eye. Ties your kit back to you uniquely. Police forces routinely scan for it when recovered property comes in.
What’s included when you order direct:
- Quantum Marine Tracker hardware — marine-grade and Thatcham approved
- Free Datatool DNA Security Marking System* Limited time only
- Customisable safe zones with live location in the mobile and desktop apps
- Arming Schedules and customisable position updates — Find out more here
- Professional installation with a vetted Datatool marine fitter in your area
Don’t Wait for Something to Happen
Most owners only start thinking about marine security after an incident — something at their marina, or a craft that’s already gone. By that point, it’s too late.
The season is well underway. The long weekends and quiet midweek nights when nobody is around are already here. Fit it now, and you can actually enjoy the rest of the summer knowing it’s covered.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Quantum Marine work on any type of boat?
Yes. Quantum Marine is designed to work on a wide range of craft — PWCs, RIBs, day cruisers, and tenders. If you’re unsure whether it suits your specific boat, get in touch and our team can advise you.
What is Thatcham approval and does it affect my insurance?
Thatcham is the UK’s independent vehicle security research centre. A Thatcham-approved tracker is recognised as meeting a defined security standard, and most marine insurers reward this with a reduction on premiums. We’d recommend checking with your insurer before fitting.
How does the safe zone alert work?
You set the zones yourself in the Datatool app — your marina, your home, anywhere the boat should legitimately be. If the boat moves outside a zone without your authorisation, you receive an alert on your phone straight away. You can then track its location through the app or desktop dashboard.
What is the Datatool DNA Security Marking System?
It’s a forensic property marking kit that applies an invisible chemical marker to your outboard, onboard electronics, and other high-value equipment. The marker links your gear to your unique profile, and police forces scan for it routinely when stolen property is recovered. It’s included free with every direct order of Quantum Marine*.
Do I need a professional installation?
Yes. Quantum Marine is installed by vetted Datatool marine fitters. Every direct order includes access to a fitter in your area. Professional installation also ensures the Thatcham approval is valid for insurance purposes.
Does Quantum Marine work when the boat is stored ashore?
Yes. The tracker works year-round — whether the boat is in the water, on a trailer, or in dry storage. You can set a safe zone for wherever you store it over winter, and the unit will stay quiet until something changes.

Tracking Performance depends on GPS signal strength, network availability, and device compatibility. May not work in all environments such as underground car parks, remote and signal-blocked areas. Click here to find out more.
The Quantum3 is powered by two user-replaceable AA lithium batteries that typically last around three years on the default reporting configuration. Enabling more frequent inactivity updates will shorten that lifespan: roughly 2 years with 1-hour updates, around 1.5 years with 4-hour updates, and approximately 1 year with 8-hour updates.
