OVER £269K RECOVERED IN MAY – DATATOOL MOTORCYCLE RECOVERIES

From Honda adventure bikes and Yamaha scooters to high-value BMW tourers, our Vehicle Recovery Specialists recovered £269,400 worth of stolen motorcycles, scooters and quadbikes during May.

Working alongside police forces across the UK – with the Metropolitan Police Borough responding to the highest number of incidents – our recovery teams continued to operate 24/7/365, tracking and locating stolen vehicles across the country.

FASTEST RECOVERY OF THE MONTH: 15 MINUTES

May’s fastest recovery was completed in just 15 minutes, with a stolen Kawasaki KLE 650 located and recovered shortly after the theft was reported. Our Vehicle Recovery Specialists work around the clock, so the moment you report your bike stolen and provide a Crime Reference Number, we get to work immediately.

MOST TARGETED BIKES IN MAY

May’s recovery data showed a familiar pattern, with Honda once again topping the list as the most frequently stolen brand – accounting for 18 of our May recoveries. Models targeted included the TRX520 quad, NSS350A, CB650R, CBR1000SP and the popular WW125 scooter range.

Yamaha followed as the second most targeted brand, with thieves showing particular interest in the MT-09SP, YZF-R7, NMAX 125, X-Max 125 and Rayzr scooter. BMW rounded out the top three, with the R1250 GS Adventure and S1000XR among those recovered this month – both high-value targets given their specification and popularity.

NIGHTTIME THEFTS DOMINATE MAY DATA

Using a daytime window of 6am to 5:59pm and nighttime from 6pm to 5:59am, 56% of motorcycle thefts in May occurred at night. While it’s easy to assume darkness provides cover for thieves, the remaining 44% during the day shows they will strike at any hour – from early morning commuter bikes to lunchtime car park opportunists.

This is a reminder that no parking location is automatically safe. Whether your bike is parked at work, outside a supermarket or in your own driveway, thieves will strike when an opportunity presents itself.

WHERE THEFTS OCCURRED IN MAY

Motorcycle theft is not confined to one region – May’s data shows bikes being taken from urban streets, retail car parks, farm tracks and residential roads right across the country.

Key theft areas in the North:

Preston, Lancashire saw two Honda quad bikes stolen from a single farm location in the same incident. Newcastle upon Tyne featured with a scooter taken from a residential area. Doncaster in South Yorkshire also appeared, with a Yamaha MT-09SP stolen from the area.

Key theft areas in the South:

London was once again the most active area for motorcycle theft, with incidents recorded across Richmond, Acton, Clapham, Harrow and Wandsworth throughout the month. Hampshire saw two separate thefts – a BMW R1300 RSE stolen from Aldershot and a Honda TRX420 taken from Petersfield. East Sussex recorded thefts in the Seaford area and around Brighton, with a Yamaha MT-09 and Yamaha YZF R1 both targeted.

Whether you ride in a city centre or a rural area, motorcycle theft is a nationwide problem. Datatool provides UK-wide and European coverage, keeping you protected wherever you travel.
