Every biker’s worst nightmare is waking up to find their pride and joy stolen.  The fear, the frustration, the thought of losing not just a bike, but the freedom it represents.  But with a Thatchamapproved motorcycle tracker, that nightmare doesn’t have to last.

One of our Datatool members set out for what should have been a routine trip to their local supermarket. They parked their motorcycle outside and went inside to do their shopping. Whilst doing their shopping the worst happened – their bike was stolen.

On returning to the car park, they were met with every riders nightmare: an empty space where their bike should be. Fortunately, their motorcycle was fitted with a smart motorcycle tracker, the Datatool Stealth.

How do GPS trackers improve vehicle recovery?

The Datatool Stealth S5 tracker will automatically notify the Datatool Vehicle Recovery Team if it detects unauthorised movement. The monitoring centre will attempt to contact the owner to verify whether the movement is authorised or not, if they cannot reach the vehicle owner or if it is confirmed as stolen, they will then begin the recovery process.

Recovery Process

When the customer gives the Datatool monitoring team their crime reference number, they can then liaise directly with the police providing them with the vehicle’s current location data, this aids the police dramatically in their efforts to recover the stolen vehicle quickly. With accurate-real time tracking updates, the police can be guided to the bike’s precise location, significantly increasing the chances of a swift recovery. With real-time theft alerts the team are able to keep the police updated with the bike‘s current location to aid in the recovery.

Post-recovery

Once the vehicle has been recovered, the monitoring centre will work with the police to coordinate its return to the owner.

What would happen without a GPS tracker?

When a bike is reported as stolen, the police will issue the owner with a crime reference number. Officers will begin searching for the stolen bike, however, if there are no immediate leads they may not have the resources to conduct an extensive investigation. In such cases, they may ask the owner to retrieve the CCTV from the location of the theft. Only 50% of vehicles were recovered in 2023.

Time is of the essence as stolen bikes are often hidden for several days to see if a tracker is installed. Criminals will then move them onto a secure location to be dismantled so they can be sold for parts; if not, they are often quickly exported into different countries by criminal gangs – making a swift recovery is critical to ensure the bike’s retrieval.

Even if the bike has already been exported out of the country, the rider could be left without transport for weeks as Most insurers will take 30 days or more to pay out for a claim. This is because the vehicle could still be found by the police.

Recovery with Datatool

This customer was able to keep the police up to date with the bike’s location meaning that they could find the bike’s location and retrieve it for the customer, putting an end to this nightmare.

With Datatool Stealth, you can protect your motorcycle with an advanced, Thatcham approved motorcycle tracker that gives you realtime alerts, 24/7 monitoring, and police liaison, allowing you the best chance of getting your bike back should the worst happen.
